Good luck, a.b., and to J as well, though I've only met him once. Maybe twice?
I have nice memories of San Jose personally, because I spent a week there in college with a girlfriend who went to school nearby. I remember a lot of sprawl, but also a sensation of this sort of open-ended, ethnically-rich churn of different social classes. There's a real diversity there that's frankly absent from towns that rank higher on the liveability spectrum for young, educated liberals (I'm including myself in that categorization), if that makes any sense. I am so curious to see what happens next.
Have fun and good luck moving!
